Choosing what comes next after high school can feel overwhelming. Today’s students encounter a vast array of possibilities—university, college, skilled trades, apprenticeships, gap-year opportunities, and numerous career pathways. Knowing where to begin, what courses to take, and which options align with their aspirations can be challenging for students and their families.
As a secondary school educator with 20 years of experience in high school guidance, I have dedicated my career to helping students navigate the academic, personal, and practical decisions that shape their futures. Throughout my career, I have worked closely with students from diverse backgrounds, abilities, interests, and goals, giving me a profound understanding of the opportunities available to students and the obstacles they may face while planning for life after high school.
Each student presents a unique blend of strengths, interests, goals, experiences, challenges, and aspirations. Some students know exactly what they want to pursue, while others may feel overwhelmed by their options. Sometimes, they simply have not yet discovered an opportunity that feels like the right fit. My approach emphasizes starting with the student—not just the program.
Through individualized conversations, exploration, and psychological assessments, I guide students in gaining a better understanding of themselves, connecting that insight to realistic post-secondary and career pathways. We examine interests and strengths, consider course choices, explore university and college programs, look into skilled trades, and develop a clearer plan for what comes next.
My experience in the secondary school system has provided me with firsthand knowledge of the questions students and parents ask every day:
What courses should I take?
What programs could be a good fit for me?
What if I don't know what I want to do?
What careers connect with my interests and strengths?
What are my options beyond university?
Have I chosen the right pathway?
What should I be doing now to prepare for what's next?
My goal is not to dictate what a student should become; rather, it is to provide them with the information, insight, and confidence they need to make thoughtful decisions about their own future.
